Brindle Cowhide Rug questions
Still wondering? Send us a message or a photo of your space and we'll help you choose.
What does brindle mean?
Brindle is a natural coat pattern with darker stripes running over a lighter base, similar to a tiger stripe. Every brindle hide has its own unique striping.
Is brindle good for homes with pets?
It's one of the best. The busy stripe pattern hides pet hair, dust and dirt between vacuums.
Why is brindle better value than salt and pepper?
It comes down to how common the colour is in each shipment. Brindle gives you a full size, genuine hide with loads of character at a great price.
Is the hide in the photos the one I'll get?
Yes. Each hide number is one real rug, photographed and measured by us. Pick the hide you love and that exact hide is the one we send. Cowhide is natural, so colours can look a touch different on different screens.
Do cowhide rugs shed or fade?
Some shedding is normal with any hide or hide product. Friction causes more hair to shed, and shorter-haired hides are more prone to it, so keep that in mind for high-traffic areas. To protect the colour, keep it out of harsh all-day sun. Read more about shedding and fading.
How do I clean it?
Shake it outside or vacuum with the brush head on low, going with the grain. Blot spills straight away with a clean dry cloth, working from the outside in. Avoid soaking, steam cleaners and harsh chemicals, and let it air dry away from direct heat. Our full care guide.
My rug has creases from being rolled. What do I do?
Lay it flat on a clean, dry floor and leave it for a few days. The hide's own weight usually flattens lighter creases. For stubborn creases only, hold a garment steamer 10 to 15cm above the hair side and never let it touch the hide. How to remove wrinkles.
Will it slip on timber or tiles?
The leather backing grips smooth floors well on its own. For extra peace of mind in busy walkways or homes with little ones, pop a thin rug underlay underneath.
Is it OK with kids and pets?
Cowhide is one of the most practical rugs for family homes. It's hard wearing, doesn't trap dust like carpet, and wipes clean. Patterned hides hide everyday life better than plain light ones.
Is it real and ethically sourced?
Yes. It's 100% genuine Brazilian cowhide with the natural hair on, hand-selected by us and ethically sourced as a by-product of the beef industry, with chemical-free tanning. As a natural product, each hide may have small marks from nature or the tanning process.
How much is shipping, and can I pay it off?
Shipping is free on orders over $200, sent from our studio in Blackwater, Central Queensland. We ship to Australia and New Zealand, and you'll see your delivery estimate at checkout. You can also pay over time with Afterpay or Zip. See our shipping policy.
What if it doesn't suit my space?
